Itinerary

Day 1 :
Airport – Dambulla –Anuradhapura

On arrival at the Bandaranayaka International Airport, you will get your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality; Representative from Travego Sri Lanka (Pvt) Limited will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to Anuradhapura.

Enroute visit the Ibbankaatuwa megalithic cemetery.

Then Transfer to Dambulla cave temple.

Dambulla cave temple has been built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. and it is a world heritage site.  Also, it is the most impressive of Sri Lanka's cave temples.  The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. feets of painted walls and ceilings is the largest area of paintings found in the world.  It contains over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock and spanning 14 meters.

Lunch at Tropical Village Restaurant Dambulla.

Next Proceed to the journey Anuradhpura.

Day 02 :
Anuradhapura – Mihintale -Anuradhapura

Breakfast at the hotel and do the city tour of Anuradhapura. 

The first indigenous capital of Sri Lanka which is claimed to be the longest lived capital in the world from the 5th century BC till the 10th century AD. Some of the highlights in Anuradhapura are the sacred Bodhi tree grown from a sapling of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment which is the oldest tree in the world with a recorded history, the massive relic temples [Sthupas] that stand above 300 feet containing relics of Buddha, the Samadhi Buddha & the brazen palace. When Anuradhapura was flourishing it had been one of the richest cities in Asia & what`s left today is bear testament to the proud & imaginative people of the ancient kingdom.

Lunch at the Lakside at Nuwarawewa.

In the afternoon visit Mihintale. The place where Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka. The walk up 1840 small granite steps is rewarded by awesome views & Buddhist monuments of great significance.

Proceed back to the hotel & relax.

Day 03 :
Anuradhapura – Polonnaruwa

Breakfast at the hotel & transfer to Polonnaruwa.

Enroute visit Ritigala, which is a second century BC forest hermitage site. Beautiful stoned paved meditation paths and stone bridges wind across the wooded mountains which is isolated mountain in the dry zone.

Proceed to the journey Polonnaruwa,

Polonnaruwa, which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and which is a world heritage site.  Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in 'Upright', 'Sedentary' and 'Recumbent' postures carved out of rock could be seen, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, the statue of king Parakramabahu, and the Parakrama Samudraya - a lake built by King Parakramabahu the great.  There are also monuments of famous places of worship such as the Shiva Temple, the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vehera and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic. On your way back to hotel you could also winess a wood carving shop where you will be shown all the types of timber and hardwood available in Sri lanka and all the creative furniture made by our master craftsmen.

Day 04 :
Giritale – Matale - Kandy

Breakfast at the hotel & transfer to Kandy.

Enroute visit the Sigiriya palace complex.

Sigiriya, the stupendous 5th century A.D. Palace complex of a fugitive king, where history merges with melodrama.  The Royal Pleasure Gardens are one of the earliest extended landscaped gardens in Asia. A gallery of frescoes of shapely be-jeweled maidens still glows with vibrant color and the water. Another distinctive feature of Sigiriya is the Mirror Wall which is located just below the paintings. Sigiriya is being currently excavated and restored by UNESCO under the Cultural Triangle Project and according to sources is most likely to be declared as a wonder of the world.

Lunch at Tropical Village Restaurant Dambulla.

Thereafter visit a Spice Garden in Matale. 


Continue the journey to Kandy. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy.

Sri Dalada Maligawa or the temple of the sacred tooth relic is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a world heritage site mainly due to the temple.

Thereafter witness the Cultural Show.

Day 05 :
Kandy – Colombo-Airport

Breakfast at the hotel & transfer Colombo.

Next visit the Botanical Garden in Peradeniya.

This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British.  It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.

If you are interested in Gems & Jewellery you could visit the gem museum shops in the area which is famous for so many years.

Lunch at Earls Regent Hotel.

After lunch transfer to visit Giragama Tea Factory and the Estate. 

Giragama Tea Factory and Tea plantation where the best tea in the world is produced. Here you could witness the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded.  Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory.

Thereafter transfer to Colombo & do the city tour.

Colombo, like many capital cities in developing countries is fast changing its face. Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. Other places of interest are the Pettah bazaar - where one can shop for bargain, a Hindu and a Buddhist temple, residential areas where you find the stately homes of the affluent, the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH)- an outright gift to Sri Lanka from the People’s Republic of China.

Dinner at the Nug Gama Resturant in Cinnamon Grand.

The restaurant is set around a 200 year-old banyan tree, ready to cast its rural charm on you. This is undoubtedly the only place in bustling Colombo, where you’ll find a village in the city to experience authentic Sri Lanka fare.

As per the flight times transfer to airport for the departure flight.
